What is a Planet?

For one reading task this week we had to write one paragraph about what a planet is. We used the information we got from a site describing what a Planet is.

Here is my paragraph.

What is a planet?

A planet has three criteria's, has to be round,
orbits the sun and it must have cleared the
neighbourhood of its orbit. We have eight
planets that have got all of the criteria's.
But if a planet does not have all the
criteria's and only two,it is called a
Dwarf planet. We have five dwarf
planets such as Pluto,
Makemake,Haumea,
Eris and Ceres. So those dwarf
planets are the ones that didn’t
have all the criteria's.

  1. Kia ora Ruby, I learnt a lot from your report on planets. I did not know the criteria or why some planets were called dwarf planets. I noticed two of the dwarf planet names seem to be Te Reo Maori so I wonder if they were discovered by New Zealanders.
